This week’s guest bloggers at are Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, the co-founders of the downtown boutique Opening Ceremony. Leon and Lim, former luxury retail executives who met as students at University California Berekely in 1993, have opened shops in both New York and Los Angeles. The store’s eclectic edit of labels — a mix of young and established designers, including the boutique’s eponymous line — started as a retail take on the Olympics, pairing U.S. designers with 15 international offerings for a competition of sales. Lim and Leon’s global approach to fashion has widened the international influence of designers from Sweden, Brazil, Germany, and Hong Kong. In September, their focus will turn to Japan.
Opening Ceremony has a lot going on this week, with their events surrounding theOlympics, so it’s as good a week as any to get look inside look into the minds behind the boutique and brand.
