One of my absolute favorite student exhibitions – for diversity and size – opens this weekend in Philadelphia. For the 109th time, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts showcases BFA students, 3rd and 4th year Certificate Program students, and MFA candidates. The work on view regularly gives contemporary twist to traditional artistic styles and (exciting for collectors) is almost all up for grabs.
Aside from the exhibition and sale, students are up for some coveted prizes and scholarships – but, it’s light hearted (on the surface) competition, the real winners being the visitors.
I can’t really express how much I enjoy the PAFA show each year. If you can make it to Philly by June 6, 2010, do so. Things kick off for the general public on May 15, 2010.
