01. Stumptown Expands With the Help of a Powerful Investor
“It looks like a big year for Stumptown Coffee Roasters. The Portland, Ore., company, known for getting some of the finest coffee in the world and serving it with rock ‘n’ roll flair, plans to open two coffee bars in Brooklyn, add a bottling facility to its roaster in Red Hook for its cold-brewed coffee and, Duane Sorenson, Stumptown’s founder, says the company will try to open roasters in Chicago and San Francisco.” (nyt)

02. So why MLKSHK?
“The pressure to compete over lenses and shutter speeds is missing from MLKSHK, as is some of the personal investment of ego that comes with sole authorship. Where a single post to Flickr says “look at this photo that I took”, a post to MLKSHK says “Hey, look at THIS thing.” (ohisthatright)

03. A Week On Foursquare
“New York City and San Francisco were among the first cities where people started using Foursquare, and the company’s founders say it’s because the service spread first among their own friends. Now, Foursquare provides an interesting look at how the cities are alike and different — at least when it comes to this young, tech-friendly population.” (wsj)

04. What an Astronaut’s Camera Sees (above)
“An intimate tour… in 1080p… of Earth’s most impressive landscapes… as captured by astronauts with their digital cameras. Dr. Justin Wilkinson from NASA’s astronaut team describes the special places that spacemen focus on whenever they get a moment.”
