Swiss maker Maurice Lacroix has been ploughing away for years to make timepiece history, now they can claim to be the first watchmakers to create a square dial. Part of the Roue Carrée collection, the mechanics that go into designing this to keep perfect time are baffling. Lacroix explains;
“As the gear profiles of non-circular wheelscannot, by definition, be regular, the principal challenge was to define the shape of the teeth in order toensure constant power transfer. The wheels were made using LiGA technology—a revolutionary process that combines the techniques of photolithography and electroforming to make high-precision micro-components that cannot be made with traditional machining methods”
We won’t concentrate too much on the details, suffice to say this watch is far from just a pretty face. An interesting innovation that’ll give you something to talk about at dinner parties during those awkward silences. More here.
