Beer | Upslope Foreign Style Stout

Where canned craft beer from Colorado is concerned, Oskar Blues has made the biggest dent nationally with their Dale’s Pale Ale, but Upslope brewery has just as much flavor and intrigue dripping off of its aluminum, and, we think, a much better set of design aesthetics. Located in Boulder—only a few miles away from Oskar, which is in Lyons—Upslope’s charm is in its clever restraint. The ingredient list on each can, for instance, begins with “snow melt” rather than “water.”

“Sometimes called an export stout, our take on a traditional Irish style is roasty but corduroy smooth and well-balanced both in malt character and hop bitterness,” they tell us. We agree on all counts. It looks amazing in a goblet, but tastes just as good pulled from a backpack in the wild (or in a movie theater). Only 200 barrels were made of this limited edition brew (the first in a series), so you’ll have to hustle to get some.
