It’s Nice That Magazine for ASOS – Hawaiian Shirts

Traditional Hawaiian shirts spell defeat and disillusionment to us. Defeat because of the desperate casual Friday connotation and disillusionment because of starry-eyed tourists who return from sham “native” trips to the tropics wearing them. Holding such shirts at rock bottom means they can only go up, and in the case of online retailer ASOS‘s team-up with It’s Nice That magazine, they reach some pretty decent heights.

The collab combo enlisted five artists (Jonathan Zawada, Michael Willis, Mike Perry, Mario Hugo and Hisham Bharoocha) to design five different prints. And different they are. Aside from Bharoocha’s entry, none of them speak directly to the tropics, opting instead for motifs that count among them Fantastic Planet lite, Max Hedroom explosion, Nagel accents and kid-with-a-crayon-on-a-place-mat confetti. Get one here and wear it to work on a Friday … with jeans.
