The Hudson River Project

At the showing of Rapha’s Knock for Knock video last week, we were given a sneak preview of cyclist/challenge-fiend James Bowthorpe and photographer/filmaker Antony Crook’s latest adventure, The Hudson River Project. “The central idea is very simple: Build a boat from a city’s waste, take it to the source of the city’s river – the river without which the city would not exist – and row the boat back.” So from the scraps and abandoned bits n’ bobs of New York city, Bowthorpe will construct a boat, take it to the ridiculously poetic ‘Lake Tear of the Clouds’ – the source of the Hudson in the Adirondack Mountains and sail it back to the city.

The route covers towns, countryside, industrial areas, farms…all of which rely on the river that runs through them. Once again the crew will be working with Mogwai on the soundtrack, wise move if previous efforts are anything to go by. The project is due to start in September with the help of the public via crowd-funding website Kickstarter. Nowness offers a look at the trailer as well as these extraordinary images from the initial trip to the Hudson’s beginnings. More info here.
