A fantastic feature over on the blog for Tailor Timothy Everest, always full of interesting news and stories. This time we hear from Claude Agius, owner of R.Agius on the Edgware Road in central London. A legendary Mod hangout, R.Agius was one of the first Piaggio dealerships in the UK. Claude, Grandson of its founder explains:
“Our first customers had been commuters, coming into town from the new suburbs. But the Mods made scooters a fashion thing. They were influenced heavily by the whole Italian scene. I was a Mod myself, and we’d have great crowds of them gathering outside the shop, comparing their scooters, around 30 of us, and no parking restrictions in those days, before making a run down to Soho.”
A great first hand account of a family business and its place in London’s youth culture history. Check out Claude’s slick tonic suit made by Timothy Everest himself.
