Kartell is really letting it hang out for the Salone del Mobile furniture fair going down in Milan right now. The iconic Italian maker of fine furniture has given aging-gracefully rock star Lenny Kravitz free reign on an upholstery update of the Mademoiselle chair originally designed for Kartell by Philippe Starck. These re-imagined Mademoiselle chairs are on display inside the Kartell flagship store, on a black set suggestive of a stage ready to host a performance.
Not a huge surprise that Kravitz slathered the chairs in exotic fur, leather, and python but they look surprising nonetheless. “The Kravitz design take on the Mademoiselle chair is haute couture meets rock and roll,” the rocker informs, speaking in semi-third-person. We are guessing that our first though on these furry fineries was shared by Kravitz at some point along the design process: It would feel good to sit in this naked.
