Chinese design collective From Yuhang are old hands at creating products from pulped paper. Their design ethos is a fusion of traditional craft and modern design, a description which fits perfectly with this chair recently shown at Milan Design Week. Renewable, fast-growing material, namely bamboo pulp made using age old local paper making techniques, is moulded into chair form and placed on a raw beech base. From a sustainability point of view this is a sound piece of design however the real draw will be this familiar form and it’s rather unfamiliar material. (IH)
