Not the most evocative name for a house: Carmel Residence. Though it does become more so if you have actually seen Carmel Bay. Designed by Chicago-based Dirk Denison Architects, this domicile rests in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small town in central California. The house was “conceived as a central room comprised of the courtyard, living room, and bedroom, bordered by niche spaces for the kitchen, breakfast nook, office and master bath.”
Lots of hardwood, steel and glass in fine form here. Looks like the type of place you could spend a whole summer in without ever wanting to step off-property. Best part, the meditation room with a mellow circular skylight set on the top floor between two porches. We will take our cup of tea in there, please.
