CR alert us to this exhibition coming soon to London Town. Part of the 50 years of Jamaican Independence celebrations, blogger Shimmy Shimmy and DJ Al Fingers investigate art, design and illustration in Jamaican music since 1980. An incredible collection of artwork in all its forms, Mr Fingers points out “While many musical genres have been celebrated for their intimate relation with art, dancehall and Jamaican sound system culture has, for the most part, been left out of the canon, despite its rich and vibrant artistic heritage, not to mention its undeniable influence on design and letterform in pop culture today,” He’s spot-on. Anyone who’s rummaged through a second hand rack of dancehall tunes will have enjoyed some real treats. Showing in Birmingham until July 13 and London July 27-Aug 12, more here.
