Watch | Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday 24 Preview

A followup on the recently announced Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection: the retail duo has recently this teaser video which shares just a touch of what is coming this holiday season from the Holiday 24 collection. The video itself is the usual teasing of praise and high words from designers, including Diane von Furstenberg, Robert Rodriguez, and Thom Browne.

Love that the only Thom Browne clip is “It looks really good.” Are we supposed to think that these designers aren’t just taking the check and running? Cutting costs has never been their thing, why should they be thrilled to diffuse their brand so dramatically? High fashion isn’t for everyone and pieces that are going to fall apart in 10 wears aren’t going to do anything positive for their respective brands.

but isn’t the advertising and name recognition alone worth it? While the readers of this site may know Thom Browne, I’m not so sure the about the everyday Target shopper. So if a few people see his Target item(s) and then seek out his other designs then it’s all worth it.

Do you really think someone who buys their clothing at Target prices regularly is going to seek out high end fashion elsewhere… and not die from the sticker shock?

I think this is most likely to appeal to the large majority of design conscious shoppers who fall somewhere in between the bargain Target shopper and the high end fashionista.

At the end of the day it’s about expanding ones name brand to a larger audience and, most importantly, money! There is a large consumer base who are familiar with these brands but cannot afford them. This will give the consumer the opportunity to own something unique. It’s in these designers best interest to team up with Target because Target can produce a high volume of pieces to be purchased at the many brick and mortar stores it owns to be purchased. More volume means more sales equals more money. I guarantee you people of all incomes will come and purchase these pieces. At the end of the day it’s a win win for everyone involved.
