An apt celebratory beer from a brewery made famous by an affinity for hops, Stone 16th Anniversay IPA brings an aura of natural cleaning products to the fore. Lemon verbena keep the wash on this one bright and shiny, while a high malt quotient does one of those Herculean forearm handshakes with an assload of hops. “The amount of rye malt we used isn’t quite enough to warrant the appellation ‘Rye IPA,’” we are told, “but it still adds hints of spiciness that contrast deliciously with the tropical fruit flavors and aromas of the Amarillo and Calypso hops.” Good going down; 10-percent ABV makes going down easier.
