While we’re in that sort of in-between, not warm, not freezing weather period it seems to make sense to turn to the overcoat. The perfect layer for indecisive weather, if it’s good enough for Columbo it’s good enough for us. As fans of the single breasted trench and its relations we decided to bring together six solid options, including the likes of S.E.H Kelly, Mackintosh, Beams Plus and Thom Grey.
More Buyer’s Guides here.

S.E.H Kelly – Ventile Rainproof Mac
We’ve featured this one before, a perfect example of a solid autumn coat. A great olive coloured waterproof ventile cotton and pockets big enough to keep your pets in.

Nanamica – Gore Tex Soutien Collar Coat
Traditional Glen check given the modern treatment with Gore Tex. Breathable, Waterproof, a classic looking coat you or your dad would be proud of.

Mackintosh – Dunoon Coat in Jaffa
The waterproof, windproof Mackintosh is the standard bearer, ringleader, bossman and CEO when it comes to this category. Generally we’d go for simple navy in this style but when you see a jaffa coloured coat you have to to show respect.

The Thom Browne diffusion line offers up this waterproof trench. Navy with that great removable grey contrast collar, definitely the stand out of his (slightly) more affordable collection.

Of course we had to include the classic beige trench, this one from Beams Plus in the ever popular 60% Cotton 40% Nylon combination, offers the added benefit of a removable hood.

One Nine Zero Six - Venetian Oxford Coat
Schoolboy stripes from uniform fans One Nine Zero Six. While this one doesn’t have any of the technical spec of the above, it does offer head to toe stripes and memories of ill-fitting blazers.
