The Parrish Art Museum will open an entirely new building this weekend on the South Fork of Long Island. Most impressive is how the rising structure nestles into the landscape. Viewing the museum from the road does not prepare approaching visitors for the quiet impact of the 34,000-square-foot building in this surprisingly peaceful setting. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the finished building is very different from the original design, from 2007. The small village of galleries was transformed into one cohesive space.

The building features two long galleries framed timber beams. The exterior is molded to form a long bench that edges the entire structure. Part industrial and part and half Medieval long house, we’re keen on checking this museum out very soon.
