One of the first to push the idea of plastic as a viable material for furniture, its founder, chemical engineer Giulio Castelli, joined forces with renowned designer Gino Colombini, kicking things off in 1949. Of course, by the time the 60’s arrived plastic furniture had shaken of any previous stigma and found itself most wanted. Kartell was in its prime and soon established itself as a household name. Working with such legends as Philippe Starck (and those ubiquitous Ghost Chairs), Ron Arad, Anna Castelli Ferrieri and Joe Colombo, the company has much to fill the pages of this multilingual survey.
