Dwell Visits Jens Risom at his 1965 Block Island Prefab Home

A brilliant find via Fast Company. Dwell speak to legendary designer Jens Risom about his beautiful home on Block Island off the New England coast. Originally from Copenhagen, he co-founded the Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1942 and went on to be a leading force in Midcentury design not only in the U.S but worldwide. Here we get a look inside this prefab built in 1965, packed full of his own designs and plenty of other original bits n’ pieces to make you go Woah. Interestingly Risom was, and still is, a big fan of these easy to construct, affordable modular homes, championing this more accessible build throughout his career. Age 97, he has visited the retreat every year since its construction and, both in terms of architecture and interiors, it remains as breathtaking as ever. Produced by Amanda Dameron, directed and edited by Gary Nadeau – A must watch. More in the gallery.
