Selectism Guide: 6 All Night Spots in Los Angeles

Let’s play a very realistic game of hypotheticals: let’s say you have a night’s stop-over in Los Angeles. Say there’s a girl/boy you really want to impress, but you are on a very tight schedule to win him/her over. Say you have a designated driver or a bunch of dollars for taxis. Say you want to eat, drink, dance and make out like it’s the end of the world as we know it.

Good news: we’ve organized a bonanza date for you and your buddy in Los Angeles.

Here’s a Selectism guide to an awesome all-nighter in LA. There are some old favorites, some new favorites and some hidden gems for you to visit. Hey, we’re even looking after your hangover the next day.

COCKTAILS AT CLIFF’S EDGE, SILVER LAKE
Start the night off in a civilized way at Cliff’s Edge, a restaurant and bar in Silver Lake that has a hidden oasis behind Sunset Blvd. Sip on perfectly crafted cocktails (their Manhattan is pretty great) amongst leafy trees and fairy lights. Romantic without being sappy.

DINNER AT GJELINA, VENICE
Located right in the middle of Abbot Kinney, Gjelina offers up great food served by ridiculously attractive waiters. It’s basic fare: wood-fired pizzas, salads and charcuterie, but the ingredients are super-fresh and high quality.

DIGESTIFS AT THE VARNISH, DOWNTOWN
Varnish is a speakeasy without actually being a speakeasy. The semi-secret cocktail bar is hidden inside Cole’s – just walk through to the diner to another interior door that opens up into the dark and old school bar.  The service is excellent, the cocktails are magnificent and your date will be thoroughly impressed.

SHOTS AT SEVEN GRAND, DOWNTOWN
In case your date isn’t impressed enough, take a short walk to Seven Grand. It’s a dimly lit, hunting-style bar where Ron Swanson would down whiskey. Have a Dark & Stormy, take some shots, play pool, make out on the deck.

DANCE AT THE OVERPASS, KOREATOWN
If you’re going YOLO, head to this mostly unknown after-hours. Located near the Silver Lake Blvd exit on the Hollywood Fwy, The Overpass is an indoor/outdoor venue that is full of party monsters who know what’s up. There are DJs, live bands and free tequila shots with your beers. (Sometimes.)

HANGOVER AT PHO CAFÉ, SILVER LAKE
There is no hangover cure like pho. It’s Vietnamese Vicodin. Pho Café in Silver Lake is the best in town and perfect for your hangover – it’s cheap, quick and super-casual. We suggest the classic beef pho and a sparkling water to ease your pain.
