Another great piece of Japanese design from a country with more than its fair share of incredible homes. The Yatsugatake Villa by MDS Architects is home for a retired couple who recently escaped the city for a quiet life in the Yamanashi hills. Surrounded by vegetable patches, the home opens up, blurring the boundries between indoors and outdoors. With no heating or air conditioning the structure is designed to deal with extremes at either end of the scale. Insulated glass walls take in plenty of light and warmth from the sun in the colder months with huge sliding doors allowing air to circulate during the summer. The interior a mix of modern and traditional Japanese, take a full look in our gallery.
