A Closer Look: The London Launch of the Leica D-Lux 6 ‘Edition by G-STAR Raw’

Taking a break from matters LC:M, we get up close and personal with a remixed Leica D-Lux 6 at yesterday’s London launch of the ‘Edition by G-STAR RAW.’  Having previously added their stamp to the likes of Land Rover and Vitra, the Dutch denim brand take the body of this compact digital camera and bring in a new finish ‘in typical RAW house style.’ Updated features include ‘dot’ leather trim (for those who like a little extra grip), ‘Leica by G-STAR RAW…Just the Product’ slogan print, a heavy-duty branded leather case and choice of neck or wrist strap. Beautifully boxed, these added extras are available only in this special edition package.  Getting to grips with it ourselves, the D-Lux 6 is as slick as you’d expect. A 1/1.7″ CMOS image sensor – sizeable for its class, a zoom range of 24 to 90mm, auto, manual and full HD video all make for a fast, intuitive and undeniably handsome product. We take a closer look at the collaboration and, from Leica’s present to Leica’s past, were lucky enough to handle two models from the ’30s & ’50s. See it all in the gallery.
