Sustainability-driven architectural design firm Simon Conder Associates builds the Providence and Malindi houses in Porthtowan, England. The two-building residence is for one family, the larger Malindi being the main home and the smaller Providence being an artist’s studio and guesthouse. The structures were built as passive solar gain houses, meaning that they organically collect and store heat in the winter and reject it in the summer without using any mechanical devices. Straight-cut wooden slabs and glass cover the façades for an equally visually organic look. On the inside, cement floors and white walls warmly take in the sunlight and surrounding landscape.
