We continue Thursday’s Shoe Extravaganza with a look at a first time collaboration as Converse team up with Maison Martin Margiela. With word and sneak peeks swirling around the past couple of weeks we finally get to grips with the impressive collection. Encompassing Jack Purcell and Chuck Taylor styles, the collection centres around, well, white. Coloured classics are hand-painted, Margiela style, with canvas, eyelets, laces and soles covered in white then handed over to you guys to watch them crack naturally, revealing the original shade beneath. MMM explain “The Maison has always been obsessed with white; it is used as a layer to give an incognito feeling. A sort of poetry, with the passage of time, the shoe asserts itself.” Available in ’heritage colours’ from the Converse archives: red, black, navy and Margiela-exclusive vintage yellow, the shoes are lined in premium off-white leather. Available globally in September at Margiela stores and select Converse First String retailers at £150/$235. Head to the gallery.

But then they wouldn’t be Margiela, would they?

Margiela hasn’t been Margiela since Margiela left, so I’m ok with that.

I’m on the fence. I understand where he is going with the paint effect but i think he is being a bit lazy, or maybe there should’ve been more styles.
