Industrial designer Ryosuke Fukusada creates this wooden lightbulb for LEDON. The bulb is actually LED wrapped in a carefully hand-carved wooden shell less than one-tenth of an inch. The traditional Japanese Rokuro technique was used with a special knife, chipping away at pine wood. An aluminum socket and wire-thin chord complete the uniquely modern and organic design. Available for $2,700 on LEDON this December.

$2,700 for a lightbulb? I can’t, by any stretch of my imagination, fathom how these designers haven’t gone broke? No one will buy their product at such surrealistic prices!
