Described as “a positive exploration of the modern woman,” we take a look inside new bi-annual Riposte, founded by Danielle Pender, chief curator at London gallery KK Outlet. A basic format of five ideas, four meetings, three features, two essays and one icon, this first issue carries an impressive contents list including – an interview with The New Yorker art editor Françoise Mouly, Nong Poonsukwattana of Portland’s ‘Nong’s Khao Man Gaion’ on her Hainanese chicken empire and set designer Es Devlin on working with the likes of Kanye and the Royal Opera house. Giles Deacon, David Bailey and Tyrone Lebon look back at the life of Soho legend, the late Claire De Rouen and photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis on her icon, artist Carrie Mae Weems. Creative agency Patternity talk pattern, Studio XO founder Nancy Tilbury explores wearable technology and 16 pages are set aside to deal with extraordinary visual artist Linder. Images from the likes of Antony Crook, Lydia Garnett and Jane Stockdale, shouts to creative director Shaz Madani whose beautifully simple, colour rich layout takes inspiration from old National Geographics.
