LA-based Commodity offer us a new kind of cologne with their refreshing approach to product development and branding in the over-saturated fragrance market. They bottle their scents by hand in small batches using carefully selected ingredients from heritage French maison parfums, and instead of using flashy celebrities or fashion brands to rep their products, they are transparent about exactly what goes in each scent. Playful illustrations show that “Book” — one of our favorites — contain cucumber, musk and lavender. Some of their women’s perfumes cross over well for men as well, like “Tea” made up of bergamot, sandalwood and lemon.

Commodity also offer a “try before you buy” service through which shoppers can get sample vials for all 10 scents for $9 before committing to purchasing a full bottle. Shop all of their scents here.
