Selectism Buyer’s Guide | 10 Swim Trunks for Spring 2014

For many of us it is still a little cold to be swimsuit shopping, but the season rolls around quicker than you think, and you don’t wanna be caught in last year’s get-up. We have curated an exciting selection of new swimsuits for you to try out this summer in the pool or at the beach. Swimsuits are a chance to display fun patterns and graphics, but we made sure to include some of the more subdued choices here for you as well. Browse and enjoy the guide below.

Vilbrequin Flamingo Moorea

To start things off, we have a fun pair from Vilibrequin. As crazy as they go, this brand still manage to keep their shorts sharp and appealing. The flamingo print will be sure to turn some heads at the beach (beach-body not included). ($250)

Hundley Swim for Opening Ceremony Exclusive Shorts

Our next shorts come from an exclusive-line that artist Ian Hundley designed for our friends at Opening Ceremony. Hundley specializes in wall-sized colorful patchwork, and definitely shows this off in his shorts. This pair even comes with a hip-side loop to hold your summer shades. ($39)

Saturdays Surf NYC Mountain Print Trunk

Saturdays always produce a great pair of shorts in line with both the urbanite and surfer-friendly styles. We’d grab this simple yet fun pair of shorts from their latest release. ($75)

Orlebar Brown Bulldog Paris Review Edition

Orlebar Brown is the peak of luxury for men’s swimwear. They offer a range of selections of great shorts every year. We chose this cool graphic, a tribute to a 1980 summer cover of The Paris Review magazine designed by Kim Macconnel. ($345)

Thom Browne Anchor Trunk

For this summer, NYC designer Thom Browne brings us a simple pair of nautical-themed trunks, a theme that is present across his entire Spring/Summer 2014 line. Made from lightweight nylon, this short is great for any trip. ($239)

Etro Paisley Swimming Costume

This distinctively Etro swimsuit is exactly what we meant when we said swimwear can show off fun patterns. These are about as loud as you can go, while still remaining stylish. It you’re a bold beach goer, this is your pair. ($213)

Pantone Colorwear Tailored Short

Pantone is known for their minimalistic, quality garments. Almost an exact opposite of the Etros, this trunk from Pantone is simple but strong. It features a discreet stitch down the front, the brand’s signature punchy color, and a button and zip fly. ($189)

Onia Fierce Liberty Art Print Calder Trunk

This piece is another interesting option that runs down the line between classy and wacky. ($195)

Gant Rugger Polka Dot Trunk

With a really nice take on the polka dot, Gant Rugger gives us a subtle short that is still plenty of fun. Pair it with a plain white tee, and you’ll be the most stylish guy at the pool.  ($98)

M.Nii “The Senator”

Last but not least, we have another great option for the more conservative beach fashionisto. This simple pair of black shorts has just enough flare with the added red, white, and blue striping down the sides. Interestingly enough, M.Nii has an actual invoice for John F. Kennedy, when he ordered the 1959 version of these exact trunks. ($170)
