The Mister Freedom Okinawa Topsiders – A New/Old Take on Denim

For many of us, denim is everyday wear. A no-brainer, selvedge, five pocket situation, we take this classic for granted and, weights, brand and cut aside, expect little variation with our faithful old jeans. Mister Freedom would like to offer an alternative. While these guys make a mean pair of the usual, the Spring 2014 “Sea Hunt” collection includes something a little out of the ordinary. The “Okinawa Topsiders” reference USN wrap-leg dungarees, sailor trousers if you will, a World War II style which the guys have adapted from its rather awkward (by modern day standards) high and tight-waist fit. This new take, basically a roomy, mid-rise, denim work pant, uses an exceptional indigo selvedge left-hand twill SC401 denim. Once again, Sugar Cane Co. get involved, bringing their exclusive blend of 50% cotton and 50% sugar cane fibers to the table. Four oversized patch pockets, an adjustable cinch-back, visible selvedge found around the waistband as opposed to the inside leg (you’ll get used to it), this alternative to your daily denim stays wearable even with all its beautiful quirks. Keep an eye on the Mister Freedom website for release dates.
