Marc Newson Launches Debut Safilo Eyewear Collection in Milan

Marc Newson adds eyewear to his design resume with this line of frames for Safilo. Launching in Milan this April, the Australian-born industrial designer produces five pairs of glasses and two pairs of sunglasses based on classic archive Safilo styles pulled from their eighty years worth of manufacturing. Over-sized ’60s (Deidre Barlow vibe) styles in  lightweight, hypoallergenic plastic sit beside more understated metallic models, all packaged in a calf leather Valextra case stamped “Valextra for Safilo Marc Newson.” Newson comments “In many ways it’s a really interesting object, a pair of glasses, because it straddles the borderline between fashion and industrial design…they’re like a tool. I’m obsessed with really good quality tools”

Available next month from the likes of Colette, Corso Como 10, Dover Street Market and Mr. Porter, check the gallery for more.
