Editor’s Selections | 10 Highlights of the Week

This week was full of pockets of surprises in topics outside of fashion, like technology, architecture, and art. Japanese camera maker Chinon made a return after 20 years, illustrator Pier Paolo recreated iconic movies in cartoon form, and architect Shigeru Ban won the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize. But of course we keep our focus to fashion too, like introducing Ghurka’s new sophisticated leather colorway and spotlighting some shoes we received here at the office. Have fun with this round-up below.

In the Mail | The Hill-Side, Converse, Clarks

We rolled out the first of our new series, “In the Mail,” this week. The weekly will spotlight some of the goods we are blessed to receive here at our office. Check out details of some pairs of shoes we got recently, including those from Converse, The Hill-Side and more.

Architect Shigeru Ban Wins the Pritzker Architecture Prize

Pritzker Architecture Prize, the most prestigious award in the field, honored Japan’s Shigeru Ban for his innovative works. We took a look back on some of his most iconic buildings, like the Curtain Wall House, Paper Church and Cardboard Cathedral. See the incredible structures here.

Selectism Visits | Dawson Denim

Our London editor took a visit to Dawson Denim‘s workshop in Brighton. See their collection of quaint vintage machinery and “unfussy denim” as well as what the founders have to say about jeans.

Texas Quail Rigs Photo Book

This new book by A. Lokey compiles his photographs of the highly utilitarian and sometimes ridiculously indulgent bespoke trucks of the Texan hunting scene. Gun racks and dog cages are built on top of cars and Rolls Royce‘s are chopped up and pieced back together.

Bellami HD-1 by Chinon

Japan’s Chinon return after 20 years with the Bellami HD-1, a digital super video 8 camera in a retro handheld shape. It’s currently only available in Japan, but you can gawk at its specs here.

Cinematics by Pier Paolo

Illustrator Pier Paolo created a short film compiling snippets of iconic movie scenes. Spot Kill Bill, Charlie Chaplin, Star Wars, Up and more in the playful clip above.

Ghurka Dusk Collection

Out of all the accessories we discovered this week, Ghurka‘s new “dusk” color leather accessories were our favorites. The sophisticated gray crosses over well between both genders and gives the overused hue a refreshing kick.

Henrik Vibskov’s “The Spotted Pig” Coffee Bar

The avant-garde fashion designer joins in the ranks of coffee shop owners with Den Plettede Gris (Danish for “The Spotted Pig”), in Copenhagen’s former Paper Island. This black wooden farmhouse is also one of the places we strongly recommend you visit this weekend if you are around the area.

Selectism Buyer’s Guide | 8 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

It’s Mother’s Day today in the UK, so we suggest you get some well-thought out inspirations from our gift guide if you haven’t already gotten mum something good. Learn from J.Crew, Diptyqe, Liberty London and more.

Watch How The New Yorker Pick their Famous Cartoons

To say that The New Yorker is one of our favorite publications would be an understatement. The iconic and intelligent magazine gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how its cartoon editors choose the weekly cartoons.
