Selectism Round-Up | Our 10 Favorite Watches from Baselworld 2014

We feature a selection of ten timepieces that caught our attention during 2014’s BASELWORLD fair in Basel, Switzerland. With an eye on the consumer-friendly watches, the list is comprised of those produced in quantities both large and limited. Expect new models on this list from Rolex, Hamilton, Omega, Mondaine, and many others. Dig in.

Rolex GMT-Master II White Gold

Highsnobiety loved it, so it must be good: The new Rolex GMT-Master II with red/blue bezel in a new white gold version. The updated watch comes with a 40mm case in 18-carat white gold with a red and “Pepsi” blue bidirectional 24-hour ceramic Cerachrom bezel.

Mondaine Helvetica Family Collection No. 1

The collection is inspired by the well-used Swiss-designed typeface Helvetica and comprises of 15 watch styles that include steel cases in varying finishes of black, gold and PVD coating. Choose from five varying case sizes in three classes: Light (26 and 38 mm), Regular (33 and 40 mm), and Bold (43 mm). The Mondaine collection will hit retail stores in September 2014.

Bell & Ross BR 03-4 Carbon Orange Limited Edition

An amazing take on safety orange from Bell & Ross. The new BR 03-4 features a stainless steel black PVD case measuring 42mm on an orange strap. A contrasting “ltd” circle hit on the face shares the fact that this watch will be scarce at 500 units. Also available with black rubber strap.

Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph with Dual Time Zone

The Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph uses porthole-inspired design on its 40.5mm stainless steel case. The black gradient dial features a dual day/night indicator that represents both time zones. Other functions found on the new Patek include hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, and date.

Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Aluminium

Hamilton delivers their new Pilot Pioneer collection featuring anodized aluminum cases in khaki green, sand, black and navy. They come in at a modest 41mm for those measuring such watches. The slightly asymmetrical Pilot Pioneer delivers soon for around $1,145.

Luminox P-38 Lightning

Created under license with Lockheed Martin, the P-38 Lightning is another take on the pilot watch with hints and inspiration coming from the early industrial days of the 20th century. Available in two movements: day/date and chronograph.

Tudor Heritage Ranger

2014 sees Tudor update their original 1967 Ranger watch for today’s man. The case, in stainless steel, measures 41mm and comes in a variety of straps. We happen to like the leather strap shown here.

Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th Anniversary L.E.

The name speaks for itself here: this Apollo 11 45th anniversary watch commemorates the first lunar landing in 1969 with a solid chrono featuring a beautifully-done black PVD dial and special laser etching on the face. Limited to — you guessed it — 1,969 pieces.

Hermes Dressage L‘heure Masquée

Available in 18-carat rose gold and in stainless steel, this new offering from Hermes features a double AR-coated sapphire crystal and an in-house Hermes caliber H1925 movement with 45 hours of power reserve. We share this classic look for those who are in need of a more formal timepiece. Limited to 500 (rose gold) and 1,000 (stainless steel) pieces; finished in Hermes Havana alligator straps.

Richard Mille RM 36-01 G-Sensor Tourbillon Sébastien Loeb

Mille worked with rally car master Sébastien Loeb on this banger model. It has a G-force sensor in it; do we need to say anymore?
