Editor’s Selections | 10 Highlights of the Week

Another week has gone by and we inch closer to true spring weather here in New York. Like all Sundays, we take a moment to reflect back on the week that was Selectism with a group of 10 choice stories, in case you missed them. From our favorite basic t-shirts, to looks inside the studios of ACNE and Cadet, this list will catch you up on the most prime stories of the week.

Our Guide to 10 Basic Premium T-Shirts for Spring

Our Monday Buyer’s Guide is a seasonal favorite of mine: T-shirts are the standard for spring and summer days here in New York City. We did our best to round-up t-shirt makers new and old with what we consider best-in-class garments, many made in the USA.

This week’s “Selectism Visits” takes us to Brooklyn inside the factory of studio of the military-inspired menswear line. Founders Bradley Schmidt and Raul Arevalo handle everything for the brand, from initial sketches, design and sourcing to production, management and brick-and-mortar retail.

The Kyoto House Within a House

We love covering residences, especially those built from natural materials, like this “house within a house” in Kyoto. Designed by architects Sumiou Mizumoto and Yoshitaka Kuga, the home features repeating slanted roof shapes on doorways, walls and nooks. We love it.

Berluti Italian Leather Accessories with a Custom Victoire Cycles Bicycle

Berluti pairs their luxury leather shoes and accessories with French bicycle maker, Victoire. Wood and leather is utilized throughout the bicycle from rims to Berluti leather toe straps. Expensive stuff, yet beautiful.

Preview Grenson Shoes’ Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

An in-house favorite here at Selectism, Grenson Shoes, share a look through their forthcoming fall collection of men’s footwear. The English brand is more accessible than ever in North America with stock to be found at Club Monaco and beyond.

Mondaine Helvetica Watch Family No. 1

Mondaine launched their latest collection of watches at BASELWORLD recently. Shying away from their iconic Swiss Railway typography on timepieces, the brand move to the well-known Helvetica type family for an inspiring 15-piece collection.

Per Nillson Typeface Artwork

This Swedish designer utilizes typography to “paint” artwork using characters, ligatures and symbols from three font families: Helvatica, Futura and Garamond. He explores the history and creators of each font through his posters, like his Arc de Triumph tribute to Garamond’s rich French roots.

Inside the Home of ACNE founder, Tomas Skoging

Berlin’s FvF takes us inside the home of Tomas Skoging, founder of contemporary denim and garment line, ACNE. Skoging’s apartment sits in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden.

TASCHEN kindly re-issue this fantastic book collecting Mario Testino‘s photos of Kate Moss. Now in affordably priced paperback, Testino captures Moss across more than 100 images both on set and backstage. A welcome addition to anyone’s library.

If eBay’s “Buy it Now” feature and Instagram had a lovechild, it would be Depop. Seamlessly buy and sell almost anything through this easy-to-use timeline. On the fence on an item you see? Simply star it and come back later.
