Selectism Buyer’s Guide | 15 Indigo-Dyed Garments and Accessories

We’ve had a lot of indigo-dyed this and that lately, so we thought we’d do you a favor and give you the best by weeding out the rest. We’re sure you already have that perfect pair of denim pants, so we suggest branching out and finding some interesting items to compliment. See our picks below.

Epaulet New York Washed Engineer Shirt

Unlike a traditional chambray shirt, this Washed Engineer Shirt is made from 9-oz denim,  meaning this guy will fade to perfection with wear, just like your jeans. This is an easy step in the right direction if you’re looking to add some more indigo to your closet. ($140)

Champion Limited-Edition Indigo Series Pullover Hoodie

Japan has an intimate relationship with indigo and vintage American sportswear that frankly makes us jealous. Yes, we can readily find both of those things Stateside, but the Japanese somehow manage to top the charts when it comes to authentic product. This Indigo series of sweats by Champion is a prime example.

N.Hoolywood Short-Sleeve Button-Down

Japanese designer Daisuke Obana’s N.Hoolywood offer this basics denim button-down that will work with just about anything you’re rocking this summer. We try to avoid tonal denim-on-denim so match these up with a pair khakis or light wash jeans. ($366)

Isaora Indigo Performance Wear Overshirt

Isaora blend their signature technical expertise with the old world practices of indigo dye —  a refreshing contemporary take on denim. The Chambray Hybrid Overshirt acts like both a shirt and a jacket. Make sure to check out the matching Zigzag Track Pant. ($185)

Knickerbocker MFG Co. Work Cap

Our friends at Knickerbocker make this unique work cap made from an indigo-dyed cotton/linen twill. The hat features antique brass hardware and a thick veg-tan leather patch. This is a summer staple. ($70)

Boneville Sharp Engineer Jacket Duffel

After checking out Boneville’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, this Jacket/Duffle left us curious. The durable Italian cotton jacket features an internal “Boneville” pigment print that flips into a nifty duffle bag. ($757)

The Hill-Side Indigo Discharge Accessories

You can’t go wrong with soft goods from The Hill-Side. This matching Indigo Discharge Print tie and pocket square make for a distinct set that’s still easy to pull off. Made in the USA. (tie $89; pocket square $43)

WANT les Essentiels de la Vie Indigo Canvas O’Hare Tote

WANT les Essentiels make some of our favorite contemporary accessories, especially their O’Hare tote. The indigo-dyed cotton canvas bag is the perfect size to carry anywhere or bring along on your next weekend trip. ($235)

Apolis Spring/Summer 2014 Indigo Collection Chore Jacket

Apolis create an entire indigo collection featuring everything from ties and blazers to jeans and tees. The standout from the set is this classic chore coat made from two unique Italian wools that create variations in color and texture. This will fade beautifully. ($298)

Engineered Garments 6-oz Indigo Tablier

New York’s Engineered Garments makes this lightweight 6-oz denim “Tablier” (work apron) that features detachable waist pockets. The Japanese-American label is known for its heavy workwear influence. But this one may be a bit difficult to pull off outside of the workshop. ($130)

wings + horns Indigo Terry Sashiko Print Lounge Pant

Slim sweatpants are going to be in heavy rotation this summer on our weekends off. We’re taking a particular liking to these Terry Sashiko print lounge pants by Canada’s wings + horns. The trousers are made from an indigo-dyed French terry with perfect elastic rib cuffs, perfect for showing off some clean low-top sneakers. ($168)

ts(s) Natural Print Cloth

The subtle addition of a bandana or pocket square goes a long way. This indigo-dyed cloth from ts(s) features a unique natural wave print created from a hand-wrapped dyeing process. ($95)

Gant Rugger Pre-Fall 2014 Button-Up

We’re fans of Gant Rugger‘s casual staples like this basic chambray button up. The entire Pre-Fall collection takes inspiration from the ocean and “waves,” so the obvious direction includes some solid indigo blue pieces. Look for the collection this June in stores and online.

Nudie Jeans Jon Weekend Bag

Looking for something to break in besides those uber-stiff new selvedge jeans? This Jon Weekend bag by Nudie makes a good companion. We love the raw leather detailing that will look incredible as it wears out alongside the denim. ($799)

Left Field Indigo Loop Terry Crew Neck

We came across this crew neck sweatshirt on our visit to Left Field‘s shop in Queens and were thoroughly impressed. These sweats are fashioned after those that Champion produced in the ‘5os and feature deep indigo dyes that will break in quite similar to a pair of raw denim. Be careful wearing this with light colors as excess dye may rub off. ($175)
