The Vame House in South Africa is a holiday home for a New Yorker couple for their oft-needed retreats. One of the few remaining seaside sites in the region’s West Coast to be developed, Pearl Bay hosts incredible views of the sea as well as the surrounding dunes and mountainscape. To maximize these views, the first floor of the home is elevated above ground level, with two rectangular volumes intersecting to form different viewing angles. This L-shaped plan opens up the occupants’ range of vision while also creating a sheltered courtyard which contains a lap pool. The white cement, concrete and timber materials of the house contrast nicely with each other, adding even more sophistication to the luxury home.
