The Montrose residence in the suburbs of Los Angeles adds a secondary volume on top of their garage. The home now has double the living space without invading the outdoor garden and backyard areas. The newly-built structure is characterized by wooden planks that line the facade, which actually reduce heat gain into the building. It also features a unique loft with a protruding window, providing its own framed view of the landscape. Sensitive to reducing energy, the new addition also utilizes solar panels and semi-transparent polycarbonate clad walls that make use of natural light.
