Subject Study | Jey Perie of Kinfolk and Bedwin & The Heartbreakers

We’re happy to introduce a new series dubbed “Subject Study.” Periodically, we’re going to meet with friends, creatives, and other industry vets to showcase their style and some of their most prized possessions. We ask that they bring along their favorite piece of clothing, design object, accessory… Anything they hold close to their heart. You get the idea.

To kick things off, we link up with our friend Jey Perie, creative director of Brooklyn’s Kinfolk Store and the American rep for Japanese labels Bedwin & The Heartbreakers and Deluxe. Growing up in France and later living in Japan, Jey has amassed a unique set of items from around the world. We especially love his poisonous rose seed necklace he got at a market in Mexico City while on a buying trip. There are also some for sale at Kinfolk.

We’re sure you’ve seen the Converse for Margiela All-Star sneakers — it’s nice to see someone unafraid to actually wear them. While many put theirs on the shelf, we see the “overpainted” shell on these begging to crack and show the black canvas base layer.

After careful consideration, Jey chose this Bedwin & the Heartbreakers “Dufler” Sheepskin Motorcycle Jacket as his favorite item. The piece is from the label’s Spring 2011 collection. He proudly tells us, “Mine is actually our second sample. The sizing is slightly different than the production ones, but it fits me perfectly. Probably my favorite piece in my entire wardrobe.”

Look forward to more style anecdotes from our friends in the coming weeks.
