Distorted Traditional Middle Eastern Rugs by Faig Ahmed

Azerbaijan artist Faig Ahmed reimagines the traditional techniques of Middle Eastern carpet making in a contemporary context. By distorting and stretching the rugs, Ahmed symbolically challenges the current political and cultural environments of the Middle East. This dramatic manipulation of an “invincible tradition of the East” is Ahmed’s way of confronting cultural stereotypes and establishing new modern ideas of change.
