Bob Eckstein Illustrates His Favorite Bookstores for The New Yorker

The New Yorker asked beloved illustrator Bob Eckstein to draw his favorite bookstores across the greater New York area. Strand, Three Lives, Rizzoli, Spring Street, Pageant, Greenlight and 192 were the lucky ones chosen by the artist. However, what came from this project was something more than just a few brick-and-mortar illustrations — Eckstein embedded each store’s rich history not only through a masterful blend of pastel shades, but also in endearing inscriptions from the shopkeepers. The brief clauses offer insight on experiences and idiosyncrasies of each bookstore. Read more about the illustrations here.
