After seeing Archibald Optics‘ recent handcrafting video, we were set on seeing a pair firsthand. We received three pairs — the Ayrton, Walsh and Ferguson — through their Home Try On Kit service. All handmade in Japan out of materials sourced exclusively from the country, the eyewear consist of acetate or metal frames with Hi-Index MAR lenses. The London-based Archibald takes care of all the designs, but leaves it to the Japanese manufacturers to ship the styles to consumers directly, cutting out the middlemen and allowing for their relatively affordable price points of around $185 to $245 per pair (compared to the average $500 to $840 in the market). Having tried these on in person, we can attest to the fact that the glasses are in fact quite nice and worth the wait. Learn more about Archibald here, and stay tuned for their US launch this June 23.
