What a week here at Selectism! The World Cup officially started this Thursday and we rounded up our favorite supporter’s gear as well as a look at Hey and Studio DBD’s illustrated player book. We prep for July 4 in the US with a look at J.Crew’s Independence Day Pack; stop in at Snarkitecture’s Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio and much more. Dive right in.
The alternative guide to team jerseys and kits: support your favorite nation with an assortment of good celebrating the beautiful game. I happen to love those adidas Adilette flag slides. Super.
Visits: Snarkitecture With Daniel Arsham And Alex Mustonen
Thanks to Snarkitecture’s Alex Mustonen and Daniel Arsham for letting us photograph their Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio for this week’s Visits series. Take a peek inside the world of the cross-discipline design and architecture firm.
New Balance for J.Crew Independence Day Specials
One of the better New Balance collaborations in some time, the J.Crew “Independence Day” edition of the 998 is damn good. J.Crew did this one right. The special-edition Ebbets Field throwback baseball cap finishes off this set nicely. Our photographer, Thomas Welch, on the photo credit here.
Illustrated FIFA World Cup Players by Hey and Studio DBD
Barcelona’s Hey Studio teamed with Studio DBD on Gol!, a book and set of illustrations rendering the very best talent playing in the World Cup this month. The book will be on sale at an exhibition at Manchester’s TwentyTwentyTwo gallery and bar space which commissioned the Gol! project. Find info on the exhibit here.
Inside the Beautiful Open Plan Apartment By Filippo Carandini
Florence, Italy hosts the latest interiors work from branding giant, Filippo Carandini. The 263 square-meter apartment is an open affair with walls “taken down and rearranged, some replaced with sliding glass doors, others left open, allowing views from one room to another.”
David Beckham For Belstaff Summer 2014 Collection
This is a Beckham collection we like: Belstaff works with the famous footballer on a full collection featuring two re-worked leather jackets, pants, t-shirts and more. We consider it Beckham’s best collaborative collection to date.
Nike’s High-End White Label Collection
Will fans of the swoosh pay $600 for sportswear? Nike is betting they will with their new premium White Label collection featuring track tops and more. To be fair, the collection also prices down to $60 — a touch more affordable.
Crystal Glass Pool and Ping Pong Tables by Calma E Gesso
We love everything about this crystal ping pong table. As Logan Reidel tells us, “By removing the visual heaviness of the tables’ usual materials and replacing them with transparent crystal glass, the brand produce modern masterpieces. The sensation of seeing the ‘floating’ glass tables is second only to the pleasure of playing on the Italian-made designs.”
TASCHEN’s “Ai Weiwei,” A $12,500 Hardcover Book and Marble Stand
Proving once again that art can take any form, this $12,500 book and marble stand duo featuring the work of China’s Ai Weiwei is the artist’s first major monograph at this scale. We should mention that this special edition sold out, but for a measly $1,500, you can get your hands on the regular version.
A Closer Look at Levi’s Vintage Clothing’s “Treasure Island” Collection
Western cowboy fashion is upgraded for Spring/Summer 2014 through the new Levi’s Vintage Clothing (I have a hard time not calling it LVC). “The cowboy styles are redesigns of what puppets wore at the 1939 Treasure Island Worlds Fair in San Francisco Bay.”
