With the defending champs no longer in the running and the US one win away from advancing to the next round, football fever is starting to reach an all-time high. However, aside from the games and players, a major topic of the FIFA World Cup is the stadiums. Contrary to the majority of critics who have bashed the value of the dozen newly-built stadiums in Brazil, one artist — architect and illustrator Andre Chiote — believes that they “are landmarks in the cities that will perpetuate in the future as a cultural and social legacy.” In the above illustrations, Chiote uses Brazil’s national colors to highlight five stadiums – Fonte Nova Arena, Amazonia Arena, Mane Garrincha Stadium, Mineirao Stadium and Maracana Stadium. The other seven match arenas will be illustrated soon.
