The Architectural Review announce the winners of their House Awards for 2014. A total of 15 “one-off houses” from around the world have been named for First Place through Third Place, Highly Commended and Honorable Mentions. The First Prize goes to House for Trees in Vietnam, a grouping of concrete volumes with rooftop tree gardens that act as giant “pots” for Ho Chi Minh City. Our personal favorite house from the list is the Blooming Bamboo Home, also in Vietnam, made — yes — entirely from bamboo that’s sturdy enough to withstand all of the region’s catastrophic storms and floods.
