100 Years in Furniture with “The Impossible Collection of Design” Hand-Bound Book

Assouline, known for their publications on luxurious goods, commission design professional Frédéric Chambre to tackle a rather challenging project. Chambre was tasked with selecting 100 illustrations of expertly crafted furniture to represent 100 years of inventive design. From a 1903 checkered single-seater to a 1922 shelving unit, each page is arranged to showcase the progression of design while highlighting each piece’s iconic era, some of which include “Bauhaus and Art Deco, Pop Art and the Memphis School.” Filled with contemporary models and inspirational quotes, the 144-page book serves as a compressed collection of history and innovation. The luxurious hand-bound print is finished with a limited-edition clam shell case. All for a hefty $695 price tag.
