Exclusive Look at RainMan’s Waterproof Dress Shoes by Mark McNairy

Adding a seriously creative element into a time-tested, classic style is a formula for success. That’s what garnered our attention for innovative Japanese footwear label RainMan that uses sealed PVC instead of leather to create fully waterproof dress shoes. Their latest venture is a joint project with all-American designer Mark McNairy as he adds his signature touch of, well, Mark McNairy (see: green brogue boot with electric blue sole).

Liquid PVC is poured into an aluminum mold that creates the shoes’ outers — the finished cast features textured details like leather grain and stitch marks to mimic the look of leather as closely as possible. Although the material used is far from customary, the footwear is handmade in a very traditional fashion, similar to how McNairy’s lace-ups are assembled.  The boots will be available online and at Martin Patrick 3 soon.
