Midcentury Midnight – Tom Blachford Shoots ’50s Palm Springs Homes Under the Supermoon

“Modernist Architecture under the light of a full moon,” photographer Tom Blachford’s description of his cover of darkness photo series. Gregory Crewdson immediately comes to mind, with strong David Lynch creepy suburbia vibes. Melbourne native Blachford took his very own design tour of the Alexander Construction Company’s ’50s and ’60s homes dotted around Palm Springs, much sought after and affectionately known as “Alexanders.” In “Midnight Modern,” these midcentury builds take on an eerie appearance under the light of the supe moon and a long exposure, an impressive post-production-free series.
