The Achilles Project Boston - now open

Selectism - The Achille Project opens in Boston

Sometimes good things take time. That can be said about the The Achilles Project which has finally opened its doors in Boston. Serving as a multipurpose space, specifically a fashion boutique and restaurant, The Achilles Project offers a new concept in retail to a hungry Boston market (no pun intended).

The Achilles Project Retail Division carries more than 35 brands including Surface to Air, JOHAN by J. Lindeberg, Rogues Gallery, Bing Bang, Flippa K, Maharishi, and many more.

The Restaurant portion of the space, Persephone, is run by head chef Michael Leviton and is locally focused in menu and produce.

The Achilles Project can be found in the thriving Four Points Channel district of Boston, in the same vicinity as the Harborwalk, and my personal favorite outdoor venue, the Boston Pavilion.

Clae Spring '08 Collection

Shoes, Sneakers

We present you the Clae Spring 2008 collection. The brand relaunched last season and it could not have hit a better timing. In a time where the big corporate sneaker companies want to beat each other with crazy colorways and materials as well as constant collaborations, Clae comes along and presents strong footwear and concentrates on the essential.

The Spring 2008 collection consists of overall 10 styles. Premium leathers and smart accents with the stitching and panels make Clae stand out. Smart is the first word that comes to mind when looking at the brand - they show us that good footwear does not need patent leather, crazy graphics, wild patterns or several brands to be involved. That's maybe not new, but refreshing in these times. Via Highsnobiety.

After the jump we present you the complete Clae Spring 2008 line-up. Each shoe of course comes in several colorways.

Banana Republic Opens in London

Selectism - Banana Republic London Flagship Store

Banana Republic. A traditional "upmarket" line found throughout the malls of America (and owned by GAP Inc.) has opened its first doors in the EU: London, England.

The International Herald Tribune has a nice story on the state of Regent Street retail . The BR flagship store  on Regent Street joins a long list of retailers including Apple, Armani Exchange, H&M, and Uniqlo (big fan). Its a crowded field for them. We'll be keeping eyes on how well they fare on European soil.

Extra Normal by Ross McBride

Accessories

Watch designer Ross McBride's latest creation is named Extra Normal. The Tokyo based designer's latest timepiece appears to be fairly normal with a blank face and three standard hands, but at closer inspection, the hour hand is actually a cutout that gradually displays the hour under the clear face. HOT WHEELS 40th Anniversary Diamond-Encrusted Car

Selectism - Hot Wheels Diamon Encrusted Car 40th Anniversary

If you grew up in North America in the last half century you probably owned a gang of them. Hot Wheels cars. 1:64 scale models of your favorite automobiles. As a youngster myself, I recall owning the Dukes of Hazzard special, a mini of my father's 69 Mustang Mach 1, and even a Vette or two. We did everything from race, to re-paint, to simply demolishing them in any manner possible. You can do that with Hot Wheels. Their pricepoint was low enough to keep your mom re-stocking you for years.

Now, I highly doubt that Mattel, the parent company who owns the Hot Wheels brand will want you to do the same with their 40th Anniversary Diamond Encrusted Car, unveiled at this season's NY Toy Fair.

Designed in collaboration with Jason of Beverly Hills and racking in at around 140k$US, this one of a kind mini car boasts 2700 diamonds, 18 karat gold casting, red rubies for taillights, black diamonds in the engine, and 40 individual white diamonds signifying its 40 year legacy... they probably would have tossed on some more but I think they ran out of room. Hell, its only 1:64 scale!

A boyhood dream come true.

CASULO - Room in a Box

Fashion

Selectism - Casulo Room in a Box

For some men, getting kicked out of their partner's flat is about as rough as it gets. They tend to be dependent partners to feed, clean, and coddle when necessary. Its sad sometimes.

So when they get tossed on their asses, back onto the streets for being themselves, the first thing they need to do is quickly find new digs and furnish.

Trolling Craigslist to find some furnishings sucks on a short timetable.

CASULO has come up with a solution, albeit something considered more temporary than anything. They have somehow managed to cram a full room worth of furniture info a 90 x 120cm box. Yes, that photo above is it.

What you'll find inside is simply unbelievable really: a desk (adjustable), deskchair, cabinet, wardrobe, two stools, and the most important element of a manroom, a bed with mattress (take that!).

This YouTube video shows how to build out the CASULO is less than seven minutes. Leaves you plenty of time to figure out where to get some food.

NY Mag: One Is the Loveliest Color

Fashion

Selectism - NY Magazine - One is the Loviest Color

New York Magazine examines the everyday life of five New Yorkers who seem to have one color on their mind.

Joanna Goddard's article, One Is the Loveliest Color, explores the monochrome fashion habits of professionals working in the field of fashion, ID, and even songwriting. Holding strong to this ideal seems a bit daunting, but somehow they pull it off.

Blue, green, white, grey, brown...all day, all night, all the time.

Do note Karim Rashid rocking some Adidas ZX's. Dope.
