Made In Georgia

Art

selectism - made in georgia

This summer, and into fall, the Museum of Design Atlanta is focusing on the local. Made In Georgia explores the rich tradition of Industrial Design in the state, and features past product design, as well as works in progress. An analytic approach to Georgia's designhistory seems really fruitful as the artistic community is vibrant and the corporate entities some of the worlds most influential (coke, etc).

The exhibition is curated by Claire Davis, Design Manager for Coca-Cola and President  of IDSA Atlanta. She worked in cohort with the Industrial Design Department at Georgia Tech.

Times Online: Are gentlemen a dying breed?

Selectism - Times Online: Are gentlemen a dying breed?

A nice article by William Drew over at Time Online asking the question: "Are gentleman a dying breed?"

The second issue is whether the gentleman in 21st-century Britain is a dying breed, literally and figuratively. If so, is that because the very notion is anachronistic, a product of a bygone age that has no great relevance in today's society?

Selectism - Globe-Trotter Luggage for J. Crew

Coolhunting brings us some luggae goodness (and you know how we love the luggage). "J. Crew has been making some surprisingly well-executed forays into the luxury market as of late and the latest such unexpected product is a collaboration with the British maker of hand-made traveling cases and trunks, Globe-Trotter. Though the New York-based clothier isn't the first to team up with Globe-Trotter (see the Conran shop's 2007 offering), their partnership goes further introducing a six-piece line of luggage in a gorgeous black and tan colorway with gold hardware."

Chanel's Mini-store opens in West Hollywood

Selectism - Chanel's Mini-store opens in West Hollywood

Don't call it a pop-up! Chanel's new mini-store opening tomorrow in Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood showcases the luxury brand's latest retail concept thatfocuses and "zero's" in on current trends raging the streets. LA Times writer, Emili Vesilind, says it best, "The concept behind the mini store -- designed by Peter Marino, who is also responsible for Chanel's stunning Rodeo Drive revamp -- is to present a tightly edited selection of the season's pieces, including ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, accessories and cosmetics, similar to what a shrewd fashion editor might handpick for a photo shoot, said Barbara Cirkva, president of Chanel's fashion division. Merchandisers may focus on a certain color scheme or a trendy silhouette or handbag within the larger collections."

Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic

New York City hasn’t seen a polo match in decades — over 70 years — but that’s about to change as the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic is set to take place this Saturday, May 31.

With a historically unique match scheduled, the Asprey’s house team will challenge Ralph Lauren’s Black Watch team on Governors Island. The RL team will include Nacho Figueras, the face of Polo Black who also happens to be the best player in the world. Alongside the field, Veuve Clicquot will host a champagne bar (where you'll most likely find me), and the sidelines are open to picnics.

The 172-acre New York landmark island is filled with beautiful parks that will play host to lunches in the park, bike rides and tours of the National Historic District, all in celebration of the island’s opening. The fourth Annual Family Festival will take place at the same time with a wide variety of activities and entertainment for children - there will be something for the whole family.

So pack your picnic baskets and Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. This is bound to be a highlight of the summer social season and polo at it's best! Via Lift Magazine

Saturday, May 31, 2008, Governors Island, Tickets: FREE, Ferry Ride: FREE too!
