ACNE Fall/Winter 2008 Footwear

Shoes

highsnobiety - ACNE Fall/Winter 2008 Footwear

We give you a detailed look at the ACNE Fall/Winter 2008 footwear collection. The Swedish brand continues to work with fellow Swedish sneaker company Tretorn and presents overall six sneakers with them. The offering consists of both subtle upscale styles and more sporty colorful styles, making it an overall good mix.

Most excited though, we are about the ACNE boots this season, which look very much like the classic Red Wing boot. But color and material choice give them a really clean and mature look, perfectly going with a nice pair of denim or some chinos.

Detailed images of the entire ACNE Fall/Winter 2008 footwear collection after the jump.

Comme Des Garcons CdG#2 "Silver Words"

Accessories

highsnobiety - Comme Des Garcons CdG#2

Coming for the holiday season is a new addition to the Comme des Garcons Parfum world - the limited edition CdG#2 "Silver Words".

"Words contain meanings like a bottle holds a perfume. Both convey messages that can be interpreted and experienced in an immense variety of different ways, each of them communicates an essence, a thought, a shared experience. Messages in bottles have always signified belief and a hope for the future.

Using advanced serigraphic techniques, evolved from traditional printing methods, the original Comme des Garcons 2 pebble-shaped bottle has been lacquered in black to contain silver words of peace, freedom and love in several languages.

The result is a deep, matt-black colour surface holding an infinate mesage of hope, stamped in silver words."

As there will probably be a lot of demand for these, Blackbird is now offering a pre-order round.

A Recent History of Writing and Drawing at the ICA, London

Art

selectism - A Recent History of Writing and Drawing at the ICA, London

“A Recent History of Writing and Drawing is an exhibition that explores the evolving relationship between technologies of communication and their users. It is a project by the programmer / designer Jürg Lehni and the graphic designer Alex Rich, curated by design historian Emily King, and involves a variety of interactive and non-interactive devices for writing and drawing.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is Viktor, a large wall-drawing machine that is controlled by an adapted version of ordinary design software and powered by small industrial motors. On Thursday evenings the gallery will host a variety of speakers – including designers, artists and musicians – who are themselves known for using technologies in more or less orthodox ways. During these events Viktor will trace accompanying material on the gallery wall, the image remaining in place for the following week.

Other exhibits include a machine for creating hole-punched posters, and a specially-adapted handheld printer, and all of the works will allow visitors to explore the relationship between technology and expression. Moving away from the blunt duality of man vs. machine, it is now possible to appreciate the particular qualities of various forms of mechanical and digital mark-making. Technologies can be enjoyed for their poetry and exploited for their spare capacity – their ability to undertake tasks not foreseen by their makers.

Lehni, the creator of Viktor, is interested in the nature of tools, and reworks technologies to suit his own needs, often defying the apparent closure of proprietary software. After seeing one of Lehni's drawing machines at work, Rich – a deft observer of accidental meaning – opened a discussion with the designer about the machine's historical and cultural context. Since this time the pair have had an ongoing exchange about the tools of communication and the potential of customised and corralled technology.”

On view at the ICA, London, until months end.

Eero Saarinen Tulip Stool

Furniture, Design

selectism - eero saarinen tulip stool

As you may have guessed, we are a big fan of stools. Several reasons. 1. Great design at affordable prices. 2. A distinct form that can take a multitude of shapes. Eero Saarinen's Tulip Stool has the same distinct look as the Tulip chair and table. Vertigo Interiors has them now. (via Retro to Go).

Fall Campaign Roundup

Fashion

Selectism - Fall Campaign Roundup

I love ad campaigns. I'm an Adsoftheworld junkie to be honest. Like everything fashion, you need some drive to get the word out. Fashion ad campaigns are usually some of the boldest when it comes to style, celebrity, and emotion. Men.style thinks so too. Check out their Campaign Roundup for Fall 2008 which is a nice refresher on what you missed in the mags. All that's missing is a poll (hint).

selectism - Number (N)ine Fall/Winter 2008 Coats

Browns got in a good range of the new Number (N)ine Fall/Winter 2008 collection. We take a look at the Japanese  brand's coats for the season.

We like the fusion of materials that come out of work-wear with more luxurious materials, such as fur, in the case of Number (N)ine. Especially the "Check Coat" (above left) caught our eye. Perfect for the colder months.

Swear For D.I.E. Fall/Winter 2008

Shoes, Sneakers

selectism - Swear For D.I.E. Fall/Winter 2008

Since 2005 Swear works with D.I.E. (Denim Is Everything) on a collaborative footwear collection. Mainly a Spring Summer collection because of preferred vulcanized lasts and printed textiles, the collaboration is now in its 5th season, the longest S***R has done.

The Fall/Winter 2008 collection brings you both a lo and hi-top in four colorways. Gone are the days of gothic, horror humorous characters for D.I.E. - the range is now tighter but there’s still a reference to D.I.E. heritage with a “flesh stitch” print and a new plaid print that goes nicely with some of this season’s clothing collections.

After the jump a view of the other models of the Swear For D.I.E. Fall/Winter 2008 footwear line.
