As branding becomes more important, countries have begun to pay more attention to how their ‘brand’ is presented for the world. In a move to update their coins, the Royal Mint held a design competition in 2005 to find a design that would be the new face of all British coins. Graphic designer, Matthew Dent, who won a national design competition, created a collection of coins that feature the Shield of the Royal Army, but split strategically into 6 different pieces, with the 7th coin carrying the entire shield. The coins are now entering circulation.
