selectism - street level

Mark Bradford, William Cordova and Robin Rhode are three young artists whose work responds directly on view. Street Level at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, features these men with a selection of 19 works. All use grids, graffiti and found objects to critique and celebrate urban enviroments.

Hailing from South Central Los Angeles, Mark Bradford’s collages are formed from old magazines he collects on city streets. Robin Rhode, working from South Africa and Berlin, is a performance artist who uses drawings as three dimensional props. Finally, William Cordova mixed media work hinges on his upbringing in Peru and new urban subcultures.

Above is a detail of Cordova’s "Wholesalers, Retailers and Bullshitters" (2005). A few selections from Bradford and Rhode after the jump. The show is open until October.
